The Shoemaker’s Children Finally Got Some Dang Shoes

Eight years ago, I set out to launch a digital advertising consulting business. To get my name out there, I began blogging to showcase my knowledge of the industry.

But few people were coming to me for help in the advertising space. Instead, they wanted me to write content for their blogs, whitepapers, newsletters and more. After about six months, I decided to offer content marketing services as my core business instead. So, I kept on blogging and got more and more customers.

Seven years and two children later, my website had been severely neglected. Like the proverb goes, the shoemaker’s children often have no shoes. I was embarrassed to re-read the copy and realized just how desperately I needed to overhaul it.

At the start of 2019, I decided that my business children (don’t worry, my human children have shoes) needed some new kicks. So, I approached a photographer friend of mine to provide me with new head shots. And I finally set out to revamp my website.

It’s still a work in progress, and I welcome all feedback and suggestions as I continue to make it better. I have to admit, though, it feels good to finally focus on my own content. I only wish I had done it sooner.

How long did you wait to revamp your website after your business took off? Let me know in the comments.
